I'm new to Samatva. How do I start?

Welcome to your yoga journey! To join your first class:

    • Find your preferred location.
    • Book your class. The best class type for those new to yoga are the “Well-Rounded + Slow + Stretchy” class styles.
    • You’ll be prompted to create an account in MindBody – our studio software!
    • Purchase your pack/membership. Our Trial Membership for $29 is the perfect pass for newbies.
    • Review our Safety & Etiquette policies to make sure you bring everything you need.
    • Make sure you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class.

    • If you have questions, Contact Us here or give us a call at the studio.

We teach all of our classes to all levels; if you can get up and down from the floor unassisted then our group classes are accessible to you. So if the only time that works for you is noon on Tuesday, then go to that class, and know that everyone feels awkward at first.

Also know this: no one is watching you (besides the teacher so he/she can help and assist you); each practitioner is dealing with their own challenges on their own mat.

All of that said, there are some classes that tend to be less intimidating at first. These are: Peace, Yin, Yin + Refresh, Restore and Wake Up classes. Just get to the studio and let us handle it from there! But even better, join our Beginner Foundations 4-Week Series.

I don't want to come to the studio. How can I start from home?

 We have two ways for you to flow from home, depending on how you like to practice. Check out our Virtual Studio section below for more information on the two ways you can practice with us from home.

 

Are you a hot yoga studio?

We do BOTH. We are an interdisciplinary studio that believes there are many paths to the same destination.  It’s great to learn the benefits of all ways.

What should I wear + bring?

ATTIRE: Pretty much whatever you would wear to work out in, or maybe sleep in (ever notice how much yoga clothes look like jammies?).

Here are a few hints: we hang upside down a bunch, so loose fitting t-shirts can lead to wardrobe malfunctions. Walmart tights are not as opaque as you might think. In hot classes, wet cotton can get heavy/bind, so we ask that you take this into consideration and look for moisture-wicking fabrics.

WHAT TO BRING:

    • Mat, towel, water.

You will require a mat for all classes. We also recommend you bring a mat towel and/or bath towel for any heated classes, or if you just find you get extra sweaty during your practice. If you don’t have your own, or forget them, mats & towels are available to rent from the studio for a fee. We recommend you bring a water bottle. We have fresh filtered water fountains for you to fill your own water bottle with. We do not sell single-use plastic.

Do I need to pre-register for classes?

Pre-registration (aka booking your spot) is required for all in person bookings and for special classes and workshops.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Public health guidelines no longer require that masks be worn in public indoor settings regardless of vaccination status. Please make sure you read our detailed Safety and Etiquette guidelines before you visit the studio.

Am I required to show proof of vaccination?

EFFECTIVE MARCH 1ST With Provincial regulation changes, we will no longer be requiring proof of vaccination for practice.  We kindly ask that you continue to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and complete the screening when arriving for practice.  We will continue to require all visits to be pre-registered at this time.  Sorry, no walk-in attendance.

How often is the studio cleaned?

Classroom floors and high touch areas, like switches and handles, will be after each class and/or end of day. Changerooms and other common areas of the studio are tended to several times a day.

My shoulder, knee, back, ego is killing me. Can yoga help?

Heck yeah!! But here’s the deal, depending on your injury you might want to begin with a private lesson. We are happy to meet with you one-on-one to help modify the practice for you. Then, you can return to regular group classes with an understanding of how modifying the postures can help you heal.

If I arrive late, can I still attend class?

We understand that sometimes things happen that are out of your control, but out of respect for everyone in the studio, we do not allow latecomers as this would disrupt our students and teachers. The studio doors are locked between classes to allow our team to focus on cleaning, so if you arrive late, the entry door may be locked. Please arrive 10 minutes early in order to ensure you can attend. We are firm about this policy.

Do you offer yoga for all stages of life? Prenatal, Baby, Kids + Teens?

Yes we do! Yoga is for all stages of life including: Pre-Natal, Baby + Me, Kids Yoga + Teens Yoga. Learn more about these classes, when they are scheduled + how to attend!

Where should I park?

DOWNTOWN | There is free street parking within the few blocks off Division + Princess streets. Nearby there are pay meters (no charge after 6pm!), please do not use the Metro parking lot or Princess Towers lot as you risk towing. 


WEST END | We are blessed with our own parking lot here!  No searching necessary.

I bought another pass, but the system says I only have one left?

Our MindBody Online software is real smart, but it cannot add. So for instance if you have an existing 10-class pass with 2 remaining punches, and then you get all excited about continuing your practice so you stock up and buy another 10-class pass, yes you do indeed have 12 classes total. But! The system can’t add so it uses up pass #1 first and then it starts pass #2. You can always go online and check out your account to be sure a purchase went though. Log in> My Info>> Purchase History >>>Voila!

Do you offer group rates or discounts for 1st Responders?

The Samatva Yoga Corporate + First Responders Wellness Plan offers both in-studio membership discounts and on-site yoga classes for Kingston area companies. We offer up to 70% discounted rates for on-site classes at all our studio locations and/or we can customize a class to best fit the needs of your company and employees and bring the class to you.

What is your reservation policy?

For health & safety reasons, all classes have a set capacity which cannot be exceeded.

We recommend that you reserve for your class to guarantee you have a space when you arrive. Walk-in attendance is currently suspended due to Covid-19. All reservations must be made online.

Reservations open 14 days in advance and close 5 minutes before the start of a class.

How do I reserve a spot in class?

Class reservation is only available online. Anyone with a registered account is able to book a class. To create an account, click here.

 

If you think there’s a chance you may have to cancel or will not be able to make your reservation, please review our reservation cancellation policy. Advance cancellation is required in order to avoid being charged a fee or losing a class.

What is your policy for cancelling regular class reservations?

BOOK CONFIDENTLY

We have a 2-hour cancellation policy. This policy is to ensure that fellow students are able to access class spots and teachers/studio are fairly compensated for their classes. Class sizes are restricted capacity due to Covid-19 social distancing measures. Late Cancellations + No Shows will be charged as though the class was attended for class cards + a $5 fee (late cancel)/$10 (no show) for unlimited/trial membership holders. We are unable to make exceptions to these policies and ask that you book only when you are planning on attending your booking. We appreciate your consideration.

How do I cancel a regular class reservation?

Simply log in to your account, find the class on your schedule and select “cancel”.

Please make sure to cancel your reservation at least 2 hours before the class starts to avoid a late cancel/no-show fee or losing a class.

How does the waitlist work?

We have spots in each class for you to request to be the next person added. This is referred to as our waitlist. If a student removes an in-studio booking, waitlisted students will be placed in class FIRST – and in order!

 

You can be moved off the waitlist and placed in class up to 30 minutes prior to class start. Once in class, the Late Cancellation + No Show policy goes into effect. You can remove your waitlisted request at any point (the same way you booked it) – especially if you can no longer attend class or it is getting too close for travel time to the studio.

 

We are unable to make exceptions and/or reservation changes via phone or email requests.

I have a Class Pack. If I miss my reserved class, can I get my class back?

No. When a guest misses their reserved class, it means another guest cannot attend in their place.

Please cancel at least 2 hours before class starts for in-studio classes or at least 30 minutes prior to for Live Studio Feed classes (virtual) to avoid losing a class.

Can I reserve more than 1 class per day?

Yes, you can! Make sure that you only reserve for classes that you plan to attend, and keep in mind that you need to cancel with at least 2 hours of notice to avoid being charged a late cancel / no-show fee.

We also invite you to visit us for Live Streaming + On Demand classes as part of your unlimited membership.

If the “book mat” option is not available for a class, does that mean it's full?

It likely means you’ve missed the booking window for the class. If the class is full, you’ll have the option to join the waitlist. but yes, our waitlist may also be full.

What is the difference between Live Streaming at Home and On Demand classes?

LIVE STREAMING We live stream all our classes – practice in real-time from your space. Sign up for class as usual and you receive a Live Stream link via your profile email 30 min before class starts. Live Streaming Cards activate on your first class booking.

Can I use my Class Cards to access the On Demand library + Live Streaming schedule?

Yes, you can Live Streaming but On Demand access is a seperate membership for class card holders.


THE VIRTUAL STUDIO

How do I reserve a Live Stream class?

Reserve for a Live Stream class the same way you would reserve for an in-studio class.

What is the cancellation policy for Live Stream classes?

In order to receive the link to join your live studio feed class, you must make a reservation online.

 

• Book using your studio membership, class pack or drop-in.
• Reservations open 14 days in advance and close 5 minutes before the start of a class.
• Students/Clients on unlimited memberships/trial will not be charged a late cancel / no show fee for Live Studio Feed classes.
• If you are on a class pack or drop in, and are unable to attend your live feed class please cancel online with a minimum of 6 hours notice.
• If you cancel more than 6 hours before the start of class, you will not lose a class.
• If you do not cancel or cancel with less than 6 hours notice before your class, your class will be deducted from your account.

How do I cancel a Live Stream class reservation?

Simply log in to your account, find the class on your schedule and select “cancel”.

 

Please make sure to cancel your reservation at least 6 hours before the class starts to avoid losing a class.

I have a Class Pack. If I miss my reserved class, can I get my class back?

No. Our teachers run classes based on attendance. If you are outside the 2 hour cancellation window, you will not lose your pass. Within 2 hours before class begins, our educators are counting on your being there.

 

Please cancel at least 2 hours before class starts for in-studio classes or at least 30 minutes prior to for Live Studio Feed classes (virtual) to avoid losing a class.

Can I get/gift a Samatva Yoga On Demand subscription?

Yes you can! Getting and gifting a subscription to Samatva Yoga @ Home can be done here.

What is your membership cancellation policy?

Cancel by logging into your MBO portal on your own. It’s that easy. You just click terminate beside your membership.

 

Memberships are in no way related to or adjusted based on how much you actually use the Studio. So if for some reason, you choose not to attend classes or access your Membership Benefits, you are still responsible for paying the Fees you agree to in this contract. $20 NSF fee for dishonoured payments.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS ONLY: 14 day grace period for forgotten cancellations @ renewal time – $100 admin fee.

RENEWAL REMINDER NOTICES: We will send a reminder in kind 7 days before your debit date. Please be sure you have studio email notifications turned on in the MindBody system. Due to Canadian email regulations, this cannot be changed by us. The system reminders will not reach you otherwise.



CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP

What is your membership hold policy?

Hold your membership as often as you want (1-4 months/hold) and save your rate! A $25 administration fee is applied for each hold request.

 

Holds cannot be made retroactive or pro-rated and run from payment date to payment date. (eg. you pay on the 12th of the month and request a 2-month hold starting in January. Your membership hold will begin January 12th and end on March 11th – covering two payment periods) For annual memberships, holds start on the 1st of the month only. when your hold is ready to lift, the system will email you a reminder. Please be sure you have not turned off your email notifications.

Do you sell Gift Cards?

Any credit given on a gift card is considered cash. Lost gift cards are like lost cash so please take care.

 

Electronic gift cards work the same as traditional physical gift cards, but they can be personalized and purchased online, and emailed directly to the recipient or printed.

 

Want a more traditional one? You can come to the studio around scheduled class times to purchase gift cards as well, but it’s soooo easy to customize it right from the comfort of your own computer.

Samatva gift cards are valid for: Class packs and memberships Retail items
Samatva gift cards can be purchased in: Custom denominations, $50-$100 or for a particular sale item.

How do I buy and send an electronic Gift Card?

It’s simple! Click here to start the process.

 

      • Select “Online Store”
      • and then “Gift Cards” – in case it doesn’t go directly there.
      • Then, just enter the amount, your name and the name of the person you are gifting it to.
      • If you want to send the gift card by email, add both of your email addresses and the date you want the gift card to be sent.

What happens if I lose my Gift Card

Gift Cards cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Please treat your gift card like cash.

My company would like to buy gift Cards and hand them out to the employees. How do I do that?

You can purchase individual digital gift cards directly on our site that you can email to your employees. Or if you do not need names on the gift cards, and would prefer we help you to make one large purchase of multiple gift cards, please Contact Us and we can help you with your purchase.

If I'm given a gift card, can i re-gift it to someone else?

Electronic gift cards can only be redeemed by the person who is stated as the recipient. But, because the gift card is eligible for retail purchases you could purchase a gift using it. Or contact us and we will help you transfer the gift card to another person.

If you are purchasing a Gift Card and not sure who will use it, do not put a specific name for the recipient (eg. You) instead.

Events + Programs

All purchases are non-refundable unless Samatva Yoga has cancelled. In the event that you cannot make your reservation you have a couple of options.  Failure to notify any absence or cancellation in writing – no phone messages – will automatically be charged after the 48 hour period.

48 Hours Before:

    • Transferred (in its entirety) to another individual for the same event + date.
    • Cancelled for a studio credit.

CANCELLING MASSAGES
If you should need to reschedule your massage appointment, please email us at register@yogasamatva.com We ask that you do so 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. All pre-paid appointments will be returned as a studio credit. If you are unable to notify us within this cancellation period, you will regrettably be charged in full for your missed service.

Expiration Extension Policy

We suck at saying no, but here’s the really-really: All regular priced class passes expire six months after activation (1st class attended).  An promotional passes (which busy specific time of the year) expire 3 months from purchase date unless otherwise indicated in the specific sale terms.

We offer multi-class passes (discounted classes) to reward those of you who come regularly to your mats and contribute energetically to the most classes. Our policy is that if you have a few leftover passes, we will carry them over if you buy a new pass. Example: you have one class left, you buy a five class pass, we update it to show you now have 6 classes in total. This HAS to be done manually – the system doesn’t do it automatically. Please keep this in mind when you buy your class passes. And thanks so much for coming when you can. We wish we saw more of you  😉

After you have purchased your new pass, you will need to email  to have your passes transferred or submit your request using the contact form.

 

All transfers must be done within 6 months of the original pass.  Following that, all passes will not qualify for moving.

Valuables + Personal Property

Samatva shall not be liable for the loss of or theft of, or damage to, the personal property of member or guests, including items left in lockers + mat storage, at the desk or elsewhere in the studio. Please avoid bringing valuables onto studio premises.  We will always do our best to help you find it however.

Mat Storage - Temporarily Suspended

While we love to offer you mat storage, please understand that space is limited and you leave your mat at the studio as your own risk. Samatva Yoga will not be responsible for lost or stolen mats. All mats are to be tagged with updated and active status. One mat per Infinity Membership included @ 50% OFF the regular storage rate. If you use multiple studio locations a $10/monthly fee is applicable for additional mats. Mat storage is $10/month for all other passes. Mats must be taken home during holds and may be considered abandoned and subject to donation without contact. All mats left 14 days after cancellation will also be considered abandoned.

Age Policy

If you are 16 years of age or younger, you must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in order to attend classes at Samatva Yoga. If you are under 14, you are not permitted to attend hot yoga classes.

Privacy Policy

In the course of your use of this site, you may be asked to provide certain information to us. At Samatva Yoga Studio, we know that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will care for your information sensibly. Samatva Yoga studios is the keeper of the information collected on the site and your information collected here will not be distributed to third parties or business affiliates without your prior consent.

In addition, on our in-studio intake forms you will see an option to stay informed via email communication from us regarding new products, promotions and other Samatva Yoga Studio related news. By providing your email address, you will receive these email communications. You will be able to unsubscribe at any time using a link provided in each email message or simply by contacting us and expressing this desire.

Accounts in Arrears

Our system will process all studio profiles with amounts owing every 30 days to the provided billing information on your studio profile. Accounts with aging balances (90 days) are subject to collections. Outstanding balances are due before attending services at Samatva Yoga.

Sales + Promotions

USE OF PROMOTIONAL CODES
Samatva will issue adjustment requests within 7 days only should you have missed your promotional discount. It is your responsibility to ensure your checkout receipt is correct before submitting the purchase. All refunds will be made as studio credits.

SALES
All price adjustments can be made within 7 days of purchase. Should you notice a price reduction on something you just purchased, you must submit your request to questions@yogasamatva.com. All requests must be made during the sale period to be considered.

COMBINING DISCOUNTS
You are not permitted to combine promotions + sales. Limit one per person unless indicated otherwise at the time of purchase.

SAMATVA $REWARDS
You cannot combine sales and promotions with Samatva $REWARDS unless otherwise indicated at the time of purchase. The use of these Samatva dollars is for regular-priced services only. No merchandise discounts. Massage/Bodywork is exempt from the use of $REWARDS. Redemption for $REWARDS begins once you have accumulated $20.

Class Cards + Expirations

NON REFUNDABLE + NON TRANSFERRABLE
Class Cards: Classes remaining past an expiry date can be carried over with the purchase of your next pass – within 6 months only. The Prana Pass Introductory Month Unlimited has an expiry of 30 days from the date of activation. Each pass will indicate the expiry/activation date at the time of purchase.
