Yin Nidra: Ayurvedic Detox
Sunday March 11 @ 130pm

About the Session

This two-part practice unites two powerful ways to relax: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra.

A slow and more passive workshop designed to facilitate deep inner release and encourage internal detoxification. Through this Ayurvedic-inspired Yin practice, we will be encouraging circulation of the lymphatic system, and the ability of the tissues to release what has become stuck and to softly encourage energetic movement rather than stagnation. This practice focuses on balancing the energy of the kapha dosha, the earth and water elements of the body.  Postures are held for longer periods to target deep into the connective tissue. For ultimate deep relaxation, Nidra (meaning yogic sleep) will offer you the chance to fully unwind both mind and body.

Part 1: Dedicated to Yin Yoga

This practice involves postures that deeply lengthen muscles and connective tissues encasing joints and all muscle, thereby helping to improve joint mobility and overall flexibility. Students hold these poses between 2 and 10 minutes each, allowing ample time for deep-seated patterns of tension in the body to begin to release. In addition, the slow pace of Yin helps to calm the nervous system and provides students with an opportunity to slow down, rest, and revitalize.

Part 2: Dedicated to Yoga Nidra (Sleep Yoga)

The final part of the class is devoted to a unique style of guided meditation called Yoga Nidra, often translated as ‘yogic sleep.’ In Yoga Nidra, students lie comfortably on the floor and are guided in placing awareness on different focal points, including parts of the body, the movement of the breath, and the contents of the imagination. The result is a profoundly restful meditation in which students approach a state similar to sleep while retaining a sense of wakeful awareness. Yoga Nidra can be an excellent way to counter stress and prevent stress-related illness. Also, because it is done lying on the back, it is accessible to students who may not be able to sit upright for long periods and yet still wish to explore meditation. Students of all experience levels are welcome.

Yin Focus: Ayurvedic Detox

  • What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a Vedic science which, like yoga, has only one purpose: to expose the illusion and neediness of the mind and become free. In Ayurvedic medicine, optimal health and even one’s spiritual growth starts with prevention. Prevention is based on a balanced lifestyle that is in harmony with the cycles of nature. Ayurveda recognizes that all living creatures, whether human, plant or animal, must live in harmony with nature in order to survive. Like the owner’s manual of your car prescribes maintenance schedules for the long-term health of your car, Ayurveda speaks of daily and seasonal routines that ensure maximal health, mental clarity, and longevity. For example, birds fly south in the winter. Their survival depends on it. In the fall, leaves turn red and fall off the trees. It’s a law of nature.
