New Class Style: HOT 26 + 2

Hot 26 + 2

Often referred to as Original Hot Yoga, this class, developed in the Ghosh lineage in Kolkata (Calcutta) where the climate is naturally very warm, is a 90 minute - set sequence of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. All postures are done twice. It is characterized by a fluctuation between exertion and relaxation where after each posture there is deep relaxation to integrate the benefits of the pose. Emphasis is placed on proper alignment + not on the depth of each posture making this set challenging yet accessible for all levels of experience. This practice is therapeutic in focus, emphasized by stillness in body and mind. There is no music, just the sounds of silence and your own sweat gently dripping, purifying and detoxing your body.

Modifications are offered to suit your unique body. Watch yourself progress as you deepen your practice and stillness with each class and you reap the benefits of repetition.

Why Yoga?

Why not!! It's the most challenging, enriching, enlivening and fulfilling way to spend my time. After class the cells in my body literally feel fuller, my joints move with grace and my brain feels clearer.

How I Live My Practice:

I try, both on and off the mat, to be aligned and free, grounded and light and authentic and true.

Where I Am Most Challenged By My Practice:

As in life, accepting my ego with curiosity and compassion.

The One Thing I Can't Live Without:

Coffee

The Book On My Bedside Table:

The Illuminated Rumi

How I have Fun Off My Mat:

Hanging out with my kids, cooking, gardening, coffee dates with friends, movies, fiction, making abstract art.

What I Know For Sure:

That everything changes.

What I Am Committed To:

Emboding the following quote:
"Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. And between the two my life flows.
Nisargadatta Maharaj"

What I Share In My Teaching:

My love of alignment for optimal energy flow, my love of inquiry, and my love of community moving and breathing together as one.

Anything Else You Want To Share?

Taking and teaching yoga are my favourite ways to spend my time, and now that I've retired from 30 years of high school teaching and my youngest child has left the nest, I'm pursuing my dream of a meditative/yogic simple life. I'm grateful to Jaime for the opportunity to practice and teach at Samatva and I hope to yoga with you soon.
